Life can cause us to not to be in the moment that we are in.

And life can drag us into the moment we are in.

Or we can choose to be in the moments.

While I was throwing the ball for my furry friend Jack, I realized that I wasn’t really present with him. My mind was on other things.

That great to do list that is part of our daily life frequently imposes itself upon us.

I forget I have a choice. I could choose to be in the moment of play and immerse myself in all that is.

I watch Jack’s ears flapping as he runs, his face reflecting his excitement.

Where will I throw the ball? His face seems to smiles.

Jack is in the moment. I could learn a lot from him.

Each moment on planet earth gives you the opportunity to be mindful. We understand that it is difficult for you to do that when you have ten different things, begging for your attention.

Dinner needs to be cooked and your child wants you to read to them. They have had a rough day and are out of sorts. They want you-all of you-now.

You have a choice. What does the moment call for? When you stop for a moment you can feel which choice will serve the both of you. Sometimes, you put the pot on simmer and take five minutes for a snuggle and a read. Sometimes, you don’t.

Being mindful is being in the moment and asking a question.

“What is the best thing to do in this moment?”

It is all about choice.

You get to choose where you put your attention and feel how you feel.It really is quite simple.

So, dear ones, if you can begin the journey into the moment, another moment and another moment and find the place to settle in each one that feels good, you will find yourself more at peace with your life.

And peace is the best place to find the joy-oh the joy, the joy.

  1. Linda,

It takes practice to be “in the moment.” We live such hectic lives, never too far from an Internet connection, personal communication, the news, it’s a challenge to focus on this instant. Yet, this is exactly where we live… in the this moment. Neither the past nor the future holds any ability to affect an outcome, only the here and now does.

I thing we must give ourselves some leeway, some slack in the matter as we are human and prone to being imperfect. So, bringing ourselves back to the present is something to work on consistently. Perhaps a key work, phrase or visualization can be used as a trigger. Be here, be now, be happy.
