To Learn or Unlearn…

Welcome to LEARN week!

LEARN – to acquire knowledge of or skill in by study, instruction, or experience.

Learning is the key to living a blissful life. In the beginning we need to learn the skills of living, like math and reading and how to tie our shoes. As time goes on it can feel like we’ve learned enough enough, but as January so elegantly puts it, there is always more to learn and even unlearn:

Gravity keeps making
deeper and deeper
claims upon my body,
and all that I’ve learned,
all that I’ve learned
in a lifetime
of hills and valleys,
of landscapes and heartscapes,
in tip-toeing through
time and the
evolving,
endless present moment,
is that the unfolding
of meaning that is given
by the lens by which
I view,
by which
I feel
by which
I choose
By which
I know-
This sensory-laden view
is layered by experience
by conditioned cultural demands
by shifting shadowed motivations
by fountains of fears that tempt
toward numbness-

now
I am ready for un-learning
so I might know
what truth wants
to
weave toward
the
wisdom
of not knowing.
