The Search Beyond Appearances

Living Bliss - Head In The Clouds

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve met a wealth of new neighbors while door knocking.

And I truly mean a wealth for I have become richer in the connections begun.

There were those who remained behind closed doors, but many multiples more opened up with perhaps a quizzical look that turned into a smile.

In even the shortest encounters I could tell when someone was genuine and revealing who they really are.

Built into our DNA seems to be a “who-dar” detector.

Not always perfect in reception and subject to slick disguises, but there nonetheless if we pay attention.

In place of high pitched beeps we’re likely to feel the body clench, a stomach turn or a closing off.

The mind loses focus as internal dialogue turns to “who are are, who are you, show me, who are you.”

Layers of facades appear and we begin scanning for what’s underneath.

Face value becomes a thing of the past, possibly never to return in quite the same way.

The seed of doubt once planted grows deep roots.

We stop listening to what is said and start searching for truth beyond words.

And once found not hard to recognize.

Whodar At Work

We’re much smarter, more in tune then we give ourselves credit for.

Our minds want to give second chances, to not judge, and put us at fault.

But we keep looking nonetheless.

That is our nature.

To seek out each other beyond appearances, where we are naked only from the outside.

From the inside there is no separation to set us apart.

We Know.

We See.

The Truth.

And nothing but the Truth.

Living Bliss is a jump-in-with-both-feet look at where Life bumps into the everyday – whether at work, play or times in between. Bliss knows no separation in the end. From a deeper dive into the ordinary pops forward the extraordinary life we search for – and has been there waiting for us to be.

  1. I like to start out believing in people, thinking there is good in everyone. It may not be the best way and it’s gotten me in trouble in he past, but it’s the way I operate. There is plenty of time to judge later. Didn’t Steve Jobs say we’re all naked and have nothing to hide.

Thanks, Lorraine, for an insightful post.

  2. Nice sentiment Lorraine. You don’t say why you’re door knocking, so I can’t comment on how I personally might respond to a visit. I work at home – pretty much 7 days a week – so I’m not inclined to encourage people to just stop by and interrupt me for a chat. But when I can break away I do enjoy being out and about “face-to-face” with people.

    • Marquita, what an interesting point you make about how we show up is influenced by circumstances. Do you think we show different sides of our same inner self or change who we are to meet the situation?

BTW – I was knocking on doors because I was running for Council in the local election for our Village (about 300 people in all).
