“The enchanted day is only enchanted if we ourselves believe that anything is possible.”*

In my experience, when something is enchanted, it brings surprises and delights, and maybe even a bit of whimsy. I think of wizards and magicians, fairies and sprites; their playful if sometimes frightening and mysterious magic. Perhaps I’ve read too many fairy tales, but I keep going back to them because they bring a sense of wonder to what might otherwise be an ordinary plot –

you never know what is going to happen.

Our lives often seem mundane. We are constrained by our schedules and, sometimes, the days start to look exactly the same. We may find ourselves sleepwalking through our lives, wondering where the magic and awe we had experienced as a child has gone.

Yet, anything is possible. While our belief about the truth of that statement may not be required, our willingness to be open to those possibilities is. In our own lives, we never really know what is going to happen either. We can make our plans, dream our dreams, and work toward our goals, but things don’t always work out the way we think they will. The way we Think they will. Thinking, now there’s a sure way to squelch the magic and thwart the wonder we might otherwise find in our everyday life.

What can we do instead? We keep our eyes and hearts and minds open. Knowing how transitory life can be, we must make a point of seeking out the beauty all around us and revel in it. When we find something or someone enchanting, we allow our heart and soul to be touched by them.

“Without a doubt the sense of beauty does not lie determined in the concreteness of an individual beautiful thing or person. Rather its purpose is much more the enchantment of the soul,
for there is nothing physical that is not made with the intent of affecting the soul, and
there is no soul that does not intend to dazzle everything physical with its sensations.”
~ Alexander Lernet-Holenia, Mars in Aries

Finding the beauty even in the most ordinary of things pulls us out of our usual mental reverie and drops us squarely into what’s happening Now. It is as if we have been roused from a dream, a veil is lifted and we may see some truth we have missed before. In this state of presence, we may feel gratitude or inspiration. We might just realize what a wild and enchanting trip this Life is.

“We wait, starving for moments of high magic to inspire us, but
life is full of common enchantment waiting for our alchemists eyes to notice.”
~ Jacob Nordby

I am a wife and a mom, a yogi, an artist, and a writer… but not always in that order! I tend to think in collage and have trouble starting my day without coffee (black). I am a contemplative and a seeker on this wonderful, odd trip that is this human life. I love to have adventures and detest fences of any kind. Dedicated to my journal, I blog part-time at www.vignettesfrommylife.blogspot.com
