When We Just Are

Living Bliss - Over The Rainbow

While Romance might have been a difficult habit to navigate, truth be told, I’d like to retire the word humility from any language.

Look at the definition and synonyms for humility. Power and control hierarchies are built into them there words.

Shine BrightHow can I honestly ask people to hold back, dampen their Light or stay hidden?

Especially when I know what the world needs right now is for people to show up – as brilliantly as possible and not shrink away.

The call has been made for All. Hands. On. Deck.

And right now that often means standing up, standing out or rocking the boat – sometimes by yourself – rather than fitting in or risk showing up another.

I know, I know – the notion behind humility is to not think of yourself or act as being greater than another.

But neither should you ever consider yourself to be less.

Being less than who you really are is where troubles begin.

All you ever need is to be you.

Here to share your gifts.

Full out from the heart.

Anything less and the world lessens too.

Consider the possibility that humility, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

A judgement.

A filter we see through.

Or a signal of feeling less than and wanting another to be less than too.

To bring them down to our level instead of rising to theirs.

Only when we just are, is there no direction to go.

More or less hold no meaning beyond just is.

There is only seeing another for who they really are and being grateful they showed up.

Perhaps old in theory, we are only beginning to find our way into being together moving forward and what becomes possible.

Living Bliss is a jump-in-with-both-feet look at where Life bumps into the everyday – whether at work, play or times in between. Bliss knows no separation in the end. From a deeper dive into the ordinary pops forward the extraordinary life we search for – and has been there waiting for us to be.

  1. Kathy says:

I used to have a a problem with Humility until I read this C.S. Lewis quote:

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.”

I have been thinking of it as a way to navigate how to be fully me while having room for you to be fully you. No I shouldn’t be less than all of me but I think it is important when sharing a planet with millions of other souls that I take their needs and wants into consideration too.

    • I often think a new language, or new words would help us to move forward faster through times of transition. Redefining words to have both old and new meanings can often lead to confusion and miscommunications. We think we’re talking about the same thing but really aren’t. Another solution might be to talk in meanings rather than words, but that would take much longer. Would make for some luscious conversations though.

Ha! So great… to that end, I think you may like the new word project I’ve got cookin’ for August!!! I agree completely. That is why I always share the particular definition I am talking about BUT and you point this out rightly, old/other definitions can lead to misunderstandings.

  2. VERY nicely expressed, Lorraine!Like, Kathy, I used to have a problem with humility too, old upbringing patterns & old religious dogma, etc… I find humility to be that fine balance of being true myself no matter what life throws at me… sometimes it’s shining my light brightly in quiet ways, and in big ways. I like the idea of us all showing up shining our lights. :o)

    • Agreed Tracy – size doesn’t matter. Showing up and shining is what’s important. I’m laughing at the image just shown to me … a Christmas tree strung with 100 watt bulbs. But I’ll take those 100w bulbs (300w are even better) for my basement because I still hate going down there at night with the lights out.
