When Hapfull Runneth Over

Living Bliss - Over The Rainbow

Passing a student driver in the city on our way to an appointment last Saturday sparked a discussion about the good ole days of learning to drive.

The difference in comfort level and skills is astounding compared against my harrowing very first class experience trying to navigate an expressway. Almost weekly I still marvel at this brain’s ability to turn just at the right moment and pull into a tight parking spot without hitting cars on either side.

Auto pilot is a wonderful thing until you begin to wonder how you actually do something and realize you don’t know, you just do.

Reaching a “new normal” happens time and time again as we grow and learn. How often do you think about the mechanics of walking across the room, eating with a fork, sending an email or using the remote control(s)?

The struggle or hyper-awareness accompanying the learning of something different, or breaking through a limitation quickly becomes a forgotten distant memory from “the other side”. Yet we can look with awe at what we’ve accomplished and experience a bit of newness all over again.

The Lighter Side Of Life

A life lived blissfully hapfull is no different. While I would hesitate to use the word “auto pilot”, a life of bliss and hapfullness can seem “normal” because the thrill or exuberance is gone. We keep looking for something that already is.

So if we’re living a new normal, what then can we use as signs of living the bliss full life we long to lead?

Moving Stillness – Feeling quietness or stillness is not necessarily a lack of aliveness.  When you’re connected with All That Is, what’s left out? Physically we’re used to adrenalin kicking the body and mind into alertness, which we interpret as awareness. With energetic awareness, moving further into the Isness of Life results in feeling calmer, more centred and purposeful in movement. Think “active guru” here.

Good health – The flow of Life and good health seem to go hand in hand. If you wonder why flu and cold season seems to miss you, or what you do catch doesn’t last long, perhaps you’re more hapfull than you believe. Running on Life seems to keep the tank full although life can seem busier than ever.

Positive Outlook – When negative attitudes – yours or others – stand out like fingernails on a blackboard, there’s a good chance you see life from the positive. Not that you wear rose coloured glasses, but you look for the lemonade surrounding the lemons. Even acknowledging anger or frustration seems to dissipate the energy more quickly to find openness again.

The Bigger Picture – Being more closely connected to Life naturally leads to seeing more of Life. NIMBY (not in my backyard) covers a lot more ground. What moves and concerns you expands as you see the nuances and interplays at much greater depths.

Synchronicities – Have you noticed you don’t have to work so hard at life? Things happen without having to be in control? You might even be so bold to say the less you control the more stuff happens better than you could ever have imagined. Intention is a creative force that needs space to blossom, sort of of like kids.

No Time – Forget clocks and calendars. You will anyway. Life flows at its own pace unbounded by seconds, hours or days. Having enough time becomes less important than working with your natural rhythm. Instead of struggling for more time you find yourself paying attention in the flow.

Enough Already – Abundance shifts. The pursuit of six or seven figures turns into knowing how much is enough. Having all the things money could buy pales in comparison to the personal gratification of helping and connecting with others. Hapfull bliss is lived, not bought. You smile knowingly at the inherent truth of “less is more.”

Living Bliss is a jump-in-with-both-feet look at where Life bumps into the everyday – whether at work, play or times in between. Bliss knows no separation in the end. From a deeper dive into the ordinary pops forward the extraordinary life we search for – and has been there waiting for us to be.

  1. I truly enjoyed reading this. I loved the ending where you mentioned that having a lot of money means nothing without connecting and sharing with people. And that the true joys are a result of what we give and not what we have. Thank you for the reminder and giving me something great to read.

    • Love this quote that appeared in my email yesterday – “It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.” ~ Tom Brokaw” I’ve see so many amazing things happen when money is no longer the focus or object. Thanks for sharing Burton.

  2. Stillness is one of my favorite ways of feeling alive, of aliveness and being. Slowing down to appreciate the breath and life flowing through me–BIG moment. Something I’m doing lately is actually not making big, “someday” lists as often, and instead making daily grace notes in my journal… it’s the now that WOWs me. :o) Your connections with abundance in relation to money are apt in this material world. We all need to define for ourselves more often what is enough, while the media always throws the “benefits” of 6 figures at us… LOL!

    • Stillness is one of my favourite ways of feeling connected and alive too. I notice so much more on so many levels. I may look like a couch potato but there is a whole other world of activity happening.

  3. What an enjoyable post!

Synchronicities…That is my favorite! Once we are in tune with ourselves and all energy, we notice that things just happen. Or do they? As an avid student of parapsychology, I just love this phenomena.
People may say it’s chance, but I disagree. It is the body/mind/spirit that is at the “stillness” which connects all energies in the universe.
Stuff like this happens to me all the time. We can also chalk it up to the “Law of Attraction” too. We develop a mindset and voila…life is a dream!

Ran across this quote today – reminded me of what the world looks like when hapfully bliss.
