The sweet secrets and delights of our imaginations

Summer Fun by Tamara Magnitsky

Welcome to Whimsy week!

WHIMSY – extravagant, fanciful, or excessively playful expression; an odd or fanciful notion.

The week that sends a giggling shout out to your inner child. This is the week we remember fairy dreams, magic light and all manner of small delights that make this human trip of ours so special. Tamara reminds us of summer fun and January invites the moon to share:

Window on the Whimsy Moon

                                by January Handl

The Moon looks for me through the window,
wildly inviting me outside into the sky-lit night,
yearning to bathe my skin in the cooler reflection of
her sister-sun’s heat-spilled beams.
I think of what I “should” do:
get ready for tomorrow,
write my check list of to-dos, make sure I have
sensible clothes and lunch made ready.

Instead, I tip-toe out, smelling night blossoms who
have concealed from the day
their ecstatic aromas for the
magical moths and ethereal bats and other night children,
like me, tonight..
The sidewalk’s wet-cement scent joins in, as I wonder
at how the dark enhances the senses-
my skin is alive with the cool breeze meeting the
day-warmed earth’s arising embrace.

I notice without truly seeing,
movements of the little ones-
Fairies and fantasies that stay well-hidden-
cloaked in science’s strict boundaries.
Suddenly gravity changes shades of lift, and things are
floating just at the sides of my vision-
the tiniest bell tingles and teases my hearing
as I sit among the trees and grasses who
whisper the sweet secrets and delights of
the true dreams of our imaginations.

All of this is noticed by no one
who has learned
what is
possible,
plausible,
practical-
Eyes, ears, skin all weighted down by facts,
they miss the beautiful truth,
the moonlight longs to
remind us
of our wistful play together
in this amazing world.

Yes! Let the moonlight remind you! Whimsy is all around. This week’s Bliss Initiative is to celebrate whimsical delight. Start a collection, paint a picture, eat more desert, dance before dinner, blow bubbles and light sparklers…

This week is sure to be FILLED with surprises. Whimsy posts, whimsy challenges and great new whimsical finds await. I do hope you will join us all week for the wonder!

  1. Kathy, Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem from January! It reminds me of how much I love to go outside at night and stare at the moon and stars and imagine and dream about everything I every wanted in life. I love the beauty of the stars and moonlight and I celebrate in the awesome feelings I experience every time I look at the sky at night.
