The stillness is as important as the momentum

Inertia seems to have set in and I cannot find the energy to do what I think I should be doing or could be doing. It is a new year. Traditionally new years are about new beginnings. The e-mails in my inbox are encouraging me to make my resolutions and set my plans into motion.

I have plans, but Mother Nature in the Pacific Northwest is gloomy and rainy now. My energy is slowed down and with it my plans. I can barely think of what to write next!

However, life goes in cycles and I know from experience that energies are always on the move and they will gather momentum. The seeds in the ground are dormant until the sun warms the soil and then they begin to unfurl and reach up through the earth and show themselves again. One day there is bare earth and the next a shoot of green shows itself, the promise of life magically appearing in my garden.

So it would seem that this is my life at the moment, inert and full of promise.

I have ridden this cycle before. It takes patience and trust. I know that one morning I will wake brimming with the energy and filled with inspiration.

I just hope it comes very soon. I have plans!

And so Linda, along with others, has come to understand the energies that cycle on your planet. They affect everything and everyone. Humans are not exempt but your modern society has created an environment that does not encourage inertia. But Linda well knows that in that inertia there is movement too. It is subtler and lies deeper, just like that seed in the soil.

The stillness is as important as the momentum. There is opportunity to reflect and focus on what it is you want to see unfold. Everything that you want has to do with feeling better, happier and more joyous.

Please do not negate that. It is life on planet earth. Any unease you may feel is because you think you have to have it all figured out by now. You will never have it all figured out. It is a moment-by-moment thing.

Like the seed in the ground that may pull back as temperatures fluctuate, you can respond to your life in the same way. There is no sense in forging forward if your energies are not supporting a forward movement.

This is a good time to reflect and muse and imagine. What do you want to feel like?
More joy? More love? More abundant?

What might that look like? What will your life look like if you have that which you desire?

Now you are doing the only thing that is necessary. Imagination is a wonderful thing and as you imagine you are directing your focus and with it your energies towards those feelings of joy, love and abundance. Soon the warmth of that will be so real that you will be reaching towards the light and putting plans into motions.

They may not be what you thought they would be. Are you ready for that?

Are you ready to allow for magic?

We thought so. (Smile)

  1. Hi Linda,
you are sharing very important insight in this awesome post.

I agree we need to allow for the ebb before we can experience the flow.
It seems that a lot of people lead a ‘driven’ life and could do with the wisdom you are sharing here!

    Thank you!

  2. Living in the Islands – a place of perpetual summer – I must admit there are days I long for “weather” but none the less, I can certainly appreciate how it would affect ones attitude and energy level. You have done a wonderful job of expressing the importance of embracing transitional periods in life, and I especially like how you’ve pointed out that it’s such a good time for reflection.

    • Right in this moment I could use some sun. And I know that there is always a shift in seasons but some places it is just more subtle. Reflecting in the sunshine sounds good!

  3. Yes the stillness and the momentum… It’s sometimes difficult to be okay when there needs to be the stillness and hard also to keep up with the momentum once it surges, but as we learn to live with one and then the other, it becomes easier and easier to do.. without out both it would not be.. One can not be with out the other! Great post, Linda!
