The Perfect Bliss Habit for the Week

Once again the perfect Bliss Habit has popped up in my rotation for me.

"Island" by Michael Dreese is my favorite Serenity evoking photo!

SERENITY – the state or quality of being serene, calm, or tranquil; composure, peacefulness, peace.

I am having a unique opportunity to experience  more of it then is usual.

Today I come to you from a hotel room in Albany, NY near the hospital where my mother has been admitted. Two days ago I am not sure I would have had he presence of mind to write this post, things were NOT going well for her, but thankfully, what a difference a day makes!

My Mom went in for an expected surgical procedure on her legs (to improve circulation) last week. My sister was with her, and based on the expected outcome I was planning on visiting shortly after she returned home. Her surgery went well but shortly afterwards she complained of difficulty breathing which turned out to be phenomena and thoroughly complicated her recovery.  Every time I spoke with her she sounded worse so with my Sweetie’s help I worked things out so I could come and be with her. Since my arrival yesterday she has continued to improve and at this point we expect her recovery to get back on track.

Coincidentally, earlier in the week I shared this blog post on my personal Facebook Page.  If you haven’t seen it you should check it out. The message was super, super timely for me. Bottom line: You NEVER know when the last chance to be with some one will be. My mom came pretty darn close to dying the other day and now we have a gift of time together.  (She does also need to rest, which is why I can be here with you now!)

So, here I am, sitting in a VERY quiet hotel room. Taking time to breathe. Taking time to be and having, in addition to the great gift of my mom’s renewing health, some time entirely by myself.  I think it should be a very interesting week.

Until next time, please do tell the people you love that you love them and take some time to really be with them!

  1. Kathy, please know that I am breathing deeply for both you and your mom, thinking of you and all both (all) of you must be going through. I am so glad she is recovering and hope this turns into nothing more than an excuse to remember exactly what you just reminded me of – to love Now.

  2. Enjoy that gift. I am going on an overnight with my Mom this weekend. Something we usually put off so it never happens. I decided to embrace the opportunity because I know I won’t have them forever.

Kathy, thanks for posting this. I am so glad to hear that you Mom is “out of the woods” (where did that saying ever come from?) and is getting the rest she needs. I’m sure you and your sister are bringing much comfort to her just by being there.

On another note, I am feeling inspired to print and post on the fridge both your blog and the blog you posted last week on facebook. After my Dad passed away I remember regretting much of the anger I harbored towards him in his last year. My son is getting older and has genetically inherited my father’s love for cars and all things related. I really wish he was here to mentor him in such things. My husband is presently not talking to his dad and I keep reminding him of my regret after my Dad passed and that I can not turn the clock back to make things right.

I think Christina Aguilera has a song from “Back to Basics” titled “Hurt” which pays homage to her father and how she wished she could be with him just one more time

  4. Thank you for sharing and for taking the time to think about the good parts of this experience. Your reminder is timely and I will tell those I love that I love them. I was just thinking how short my “Mother’s Day Cards to buy” list was this year and how I should take extra care in writing them, because it might be shorter next year. xx
