Speaking of… coming clean, definitions and Moxie

I have a couple of things to come clean about as we start this moxie week.

First, some of you may remember that I had this idea for a The Moxiest Person Alive Contest. I still love the idea but I just haven’t been able to give the contest the time that is required to make it really work. I have decided that instead of following through this week as planned I will re-launch the contest when I get my moxie act together! My apologies if you were looking forward to this this week.

Second, last Moxie week I expressed concern that my existing Moxie definition was lacking. Here is that definition.

MOXIE – The ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage; vigor; verve; pep.

And here is the post where I suggested it should be changed. I had intended to muse about it that last week and then with some sort of “Big Reveal” fanfare  announce the new Bliss Habits definition. The problem is, I still don’t know what I want it to be!

Now I realize that some of you probably think that I am spending WAY too much time worrying about this but I feel very strongly that word choice is very important and while it is pretty audacious of me to rework something Webster and his dictionary cronies have already passed judgement upon, Moxie requires it! I do believe that language evolves and that our collective use of words has an impact on them.

The Urban Dictionary seems to agree with me and reviewing their Moxie definitions convinces me that I am on to something. Their most thumbed up entry already is more interesting then my previously Webster-afied (like how I just make up words too?!) one ever was:

MOXIE – sass, courage, spunk, determination, attitude

I particularly like the word sass.

And attitude speaks to a certain style and gumption that that is missing in my original definition. Hmm, this Urban Dictionary definition may just be the way to go. What do you guys think?

I’m not going to let this conversation go unanswered this time out. By the week’s end I will be announcing the official new Bliss Habits definition. so if you have anything to say on the topic please say so now!  I really look forward to wrapping this up with your help!

To help you get present to the Moxie Mood, let’s visit some examples of Moxie in action and get this week’s Speaking of Moxie Party underway. AS ever I would be most happy if you add your own examples of Moxie. At the end of the week I will highlight three standout Moxie posts, linking yours up here will insure that I consider it for one of my Moxie picks!

Here are the ground rules for this party:

  1. Share NEW and OLD posts on the topic. This is your chance to share your favorite posts. If they fit the topic and you think we could benefit it doesn’t matter when you wrote it. Wisdom is timeless!
  2. Share your’s and other’s posts! Ran across a timely tidbit? Let us hear about it too! When sharing someone else’s posts please designate this by putting an *asterisk before the listing and please say submitted by using your name or blog name.
  3. Leave a comment after posting letting us know why you think the post is worth our time. We are building a knowledge library and your context makes it all the more valuable!
  4. Have Fun! I hope to make this party a fun and valuable addition to your weekly blog hopping.

Note: If you don’t have a blog to share, photos, ETSY collections and essays are most welcome. Let me know if you need help linking them up!

I look forward to getting my moxie up with your contributions!!

P.S. Before you go a hopping to these moxie hot spots do leave me a comment with your thoughts on our definition!
