Welcome to Humility week.
Humility is a funny topic. On one hand it is full of such reverence but on the other it is so omnipresent, if we allow ourselves to get present. Every breath, every gorgeous being (just look at that seahorse!) invites us to it. When practiced correctly, humility paves the way for the very best human behavior.
January shows us:
May my words make their way
Into the heart of the world…. by January Handl
Today I am humbled
by watching a 16 year old
girl on her birthday
address the UN assembly
with words of Forgiveness
Peace
Love
after being shot in the head
for striving to educate girls
in her country
I am humbled by the suffering
of children
of women
of men
who are impacted
by the misguidance
of fear,
anger,
into
unconscious action
horrific violation
deep dismaying perpetration
of karmic debt and cosmic balance
I am humbled by the
naked questions of children
whose innocent wisdom
bends my knees in honoring
the soul-fired eyes
curiosity-filled hearts
and uninhibited wonder
at both the beauty of this planet
and the inexplicability of the
ways of our species
I am humbled by the courage
the strength
the determination
of the wildest meandering
of the shared source
of the giant love
that keeps its place
keeps its peace
keeps its core
even amongst such
obstacles and opportunities
of light and shadow
I am humbled by each of you
and this life
this gift
this response-ability
to each other.
Humility gives us access to a human being’s best. Heck two of our finest are even part of the definition!
HUMILITY – The quality or condition of being humble; imitate Jesus and Socrates.
This week our initiative is to be like these men. When we can serve we should serve. When we can listen we should listen. When compassion calls we should answer.
Breathe deep, we all have our perfect place in the “giant love” and this week humility can lead us to the wonder!
