Listen With All Your Being

Living Bliss - Head In The Clouds

I’ve been thinking about Listening.

Which is probably why I’m drawing a blank.

Doesn’t help having to deal with insurance claims, all day errand runs, sick cats, election campaigns and month end books.

A normal day in the life, right?

No time to Listen.

Sitting still puts the brain into high gear.

Scheduled Listening time almost always backfires from pressure. And convenient distractions.

Answers don’t come with raised hands to say “here I am!”

My gut either gurgles or says “feed me.”

Listen By Being

Then a message squeezes through the flak – in the shower.

Sure, strike when the defenses are down.

Ten minutes of only thinking how good the hot water feels on my body.

Sort of like driving.

The brain has something to do, but not hyper-engaged. Unless conditions are bad or the traffic crazy.

I recognize the feeling.

Going about the day inwardly open, clear, relaxed and aware.

My brain is working, just not intensely focused on more important than everything else.

The difference in Listening comes from who I am being, not from stopping everything or having enough time.

Struggling, forcing and expecting all increase static to receive less or not at all.

Easing up, allowing and paying attention to what appears creates the space for Listening, and making accessible the inner guidance we have for ourselves.

Living Bliss is a jump-in-with-both-feet look at where Life bumps into the everyday – whether at work, play or times in between. Bliss knows no separation in the end. From a deeper dive into the ordinary pops forward the extraordinary life we search for – and has been there waiting for us to be.

  1. Listening… something I multi-task often times. I would be listening and thinking of something else like chores, or stuff from work. But my kids senses this all the time and would call my attention to it, after which I would feel guilty for doing it, and would give my undivided attention to them. I have to do a better job listening.

    • I know what you mean Cherrie. I find more and more divided attention means what others are saying is heard but I’m not really listening to them. Even with my mind engaged enough to be open to deeper Listening, like you I have to pay attention to make sure those to-do list items or work problems don’t jump in to fill that space. They are speedy little critters ready to pounce on any opportunity.

    • There are definitely times when those ten steps take me down a totally different path than what actually happens. I think that’s why I’m so bad at chess … the other person doesn’t follow my plans after each move.
