life is a reflection of choices you’ve made…

Welcome to Tuesdays with Chel.

Every choice you have made- the really BIG ones and the really really tiny ones- have lead you to this moment in your life. That sounds a little daunting, but it’s really not, when you think about it. We’ve all made millions of choices in our lifetime- everything from what kind of coffee to drink in the morning to what we might choose as a career. What shirt to wear with what skirt to what kind of person we want to spend the rest of our lives with.

When I reflect on my own life, I realize that sometimes it’s the littlest choices that have made the biggest impact.

For example, one day in 1993 I decided to start swimming a few laps. Twenty-one years later, I’m now swimming five miles every day.

Or the time in 1997 I decided to start exploring writing personal narratives about my life. A year or so later through that writing, I met the guy who is now my husband (we have been friends since 1999, together since 2000, and married since 2004.)

Or the time I decided to buy a few bucks worth of clay at the art store to try making some beads and that bead making wound up becoming the creative practice that took me from being a website designer to becoming a full-time artist.

Or the time in December of 2005 my husband and I decided to click on the link that said “Vietnam” when we were researching our adoption. Eight months later, the amazing Gracie (born in Danang, Vietnam in fall of 2005) entered our lives and changed everything.

All of these were fairly simple choices, but they all led to something gigantic and meaningful in my life- a complete transformation.

And, upon reflection, all these choices had something similar in common- they all were made with an intention to improve my general well-being.

When you reflect on your life, what choices that you made have proven the most powerful? What do those choices have in common? How can you make more of them right now to transform your life?
