I’m not organizing a thing, this week we are finding the Joy in Order.

“Order” by Tamara Magnitsky

Letter To The World

by January Handl

Listen,

The thing is

we come to these amazing machines-these bodies of flesh and birth and death and rebirth,

From cellular to macro, each part whole unto itself, each part flawed and wounded and limited

And we strive toward a perfection that can’t be

And then we add the feelings that make it all worthwhile, difficult, unbearable, amazing

And every choice, every circumstance, every interaction keeps leading us to an inevitable or shifting next
step, and there are no easy answers and it is all so simple, completely hazy in its complexity and starkly obvious in its clarity,

And we project our fears and wonders, our tears and temptations, or dreads and desires on the all:
the other bodies spirits minds around us, the boundaries of our skin a lie, a lie we asked for, a lie we
must live and grow with until the truth seeps in and strips away the illusions of separateness and the
fire of our passions burns us back to the innocence that continues to remain a stable core despite what
the chattering of the mind that keeps pestering us with distractions tries to keep us believing- a test of
focus, a test of mundane mechanics of life, a savoring of the miracles that our relativity and connected
nature keeps us from being utterly alone, adrift and away.

Listen,

We are here, now

Give in to that

Be that

I will too.

Order week is upon us. Greeted, if I am to be entirely honest, with the welcome of annoyance. You see I chose Order as one of my habits because I love its promise. The clean, the calm, the pristine. Some Polyanna place where everything I hope to accomplish and create arrives in full splendor and orderliness. Some dream born of 1970s sitcoms and dish detergent commercials that reminds me that my home will never be that way.

Since last order week I have been pondering just what has and has not been working with regard to this habit. I even wrote a Guest post for Green and Tidy in which I asked and answered the question “What if you were friends with Order” which made me realize I was far too serious in my pursuit. I have wanted to tame order. To get a handle on it, make it work for me and in the process I have lost the joy in it. I concluded, that to be a good friend with order, I would just ENJOY it. I would seek out places, like beautiful stationary stores and minimalist blogs where order thrives and allow myself to feel the love again.

For this reason, this weeks Bliss Initiative is to find the Joy in Order. What ever that may mean for you. Tamara found it in her daughters habit of lining up stones. January suggests that perfection can not be and we will be far more satisfied if we allow ourselves to be connected to the nature around us. Yes order is here to be enjoyed. Let us make this our priority this week!

What types of order do you enjoy? Where will you find Joy in Order?

  1. Ah, stick with it Kathy. Keep in mind WHY you are creating order. The joy comes in how your home and workplace support you to to live the life of your dreams – without you even noticing!

And, in how lovely an ordered space looks. I recently found a shop selling secondhand plastic stands that jewellery shops use to display earrings. Now ALL my earrings are on two stands (one for long earrings, one for studs). They look lovely, I can choose easily from all my earrings and they’re easy to access. After I’d transferred them all to the stands, I kept going back to look at them because I was so pleased with it.

I was the same after I did a major declutter of my loft (http://mygreenandtidylife.co.uk/2011/09/decluttering-my-loft). I kept going back up there just to stare at how beautifully clear it was. 🙂

  2. I love it! What a breath of relief from the stress of having everything in order, no matter how perfect it may seem… Because indeed, things are already perfect as they are. 🙂

    (Loving the contributions, too!)
