Fun is good! How will you let it unfold?

Linda is away having some fun of her own this week so we are revisiting one of her earlier posts! Have fun!

“If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good.”
― Dr. Seuss

I don’t have enough fun. When I do have fun I realize that it is very, very good for me!

Some fun things I did recently are splashing through the puddles in my new purple rain boots, laughing as I watched Jack and a puppy run rings around a tree, speaking at an event, swimming with the dolphins, surprising my husband with a visit from our son, swinging on a swing set and laughing ’til I cried watching an old Seinfield re-run.

There is no seemingly common thread that runs through these things. The fun of some of them caught me totally off guard. I wasn’t expecting to find the fun in them and others I was expecting to have fun, like swimming with the dolphins.

I think that fun is something that you allow to unfold. So, yes there is a common thread and that is my ability to be in a moment and allowing myself to be surprised by the total fun that is life on planet earth.

It is a playground after all-according to The Group and I tend to believe them, even when I am not in love with a particular aspect of the playground. I can be like the kid that sulks in a corner until something or someone teases me into playing.

I know lots of people, my husband being one who is capable of having fun at a drop of a hat. Oh how I envy him his ability to engage in play all the while laughing like a small child. I have learned a few things from him, like setting aside my seriousness and being silly more often. Have you ever noticed how silliness and fun often occupy the same space? Children are experts at silliness and fun.

Fun is good, fun is fine,
More often than not
Fun could be mine!

“We like to see Linda be whimsical and laugh and have fun. Each of you has your own special gifts to offer the world and often those gifts are to encourage others into fun, like Dr. Seuss.

The ones who tease you into fun, play and laughter should be thanked. They offer a precious commodity on your planet. It is one that is in short supply as the shifts are occurring. There is far too much seriousness being shared and not enough laughter. There is laughter in spirit-much laughter. Nothing is more important, nothing lifts your spirits more than a few minutes of laughter.

The laughter teases you into who you are. It causes you to be in love with life. Suddenly in laughter you are you! Suddenly in the fun you are you!

In our eyes it is magical to see the return to your essence, the one we see always and in all ways.”

Fun is good!

  1. You have such a beautiful smile – it seems like you bring lots of joy just with that! I go for the joy as much as possible, searching for any reason to laugh, smile, make memories. But I have an everlasting joy that is always my source and I find that nestled in my faith. Never lets me down.

    • Thank you Elizabeth! I think I could take a page out of your book and find reasons to laugh-I do smile easily though! I love the turn of phrase “nestled in my faith”, it speaks volumes and also describes my connection to source.
      Enjoy your weekend!

  2. What a great post to take with me into the weekend Linda! Thank you!! My husband has been playing with his iphone camera on a huge pole, taking these really fun videos from way up high – I keep telling him, “you are having so much fun…follow the fun, it’s going to take you to some awesome places!” Now it’s my turn!!! 🙂

    • Hi Karen,
yep-your turn and it seems like me you have a husband that naturally follows the fun! Who knows where fun will lead us-I am certainly willing to find out-at the very least I am smiling more!
      Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Fun……If Someone took the Fun out of life, what a sad place we would live in……..It is interesting to me how, when something in our life gets to somber …..something happens to bring back Joy…..creating balance…..I tend to tip to the Fun side very easily(probably back out of balance that way!)……Life on this earth is just to short to Not have fun…..Smokey

    • Hi Smokey! Just returned from a week away of fun and filling my joy vessel up. You are probably a good reminder for everyone to have fun! I don’t think that is a bad thing-it is a good thing!

  4. Hi Linda,
thank you for the reminder about having fun.

I appreciate the examples you are sharing. Purple boots, yay!

In a book I was reading it was saying that when we become adults we seem to think that being responsible is to be serious.
My childhood was serious, my mother even slapped me in the face when I was a teenager and giggling with my friend in the car once.

To letting our inner playful child having fun!

  5. I can certainly relate to your story. So many children are told to calm down, be serious. Why?
Continue to giggle as much as you can and I will try to do the same!
