This past weekend, my husband and I,  spent time with my son on Vancouver Island at his place of employment. He works at Strathcona Park Lodge (www.strathcona.bc.ca) in the wilds of British Columbia. He enjoys the outdoors and completed a four month Outdoor Leadership Training program, two years ago. This summer he was gifted with a five month contract. This course opened him up in a way that causes joy to rise up in my heart. His big love is rock climbing but he also can now canoe and kayak in still and white water and ocean waves and mountain climb. His job involves introducing young and old to the joys of the great outdoors. When he isn’t working he is on rock faces, challenging himself as he navigates the complexities of a rock face.

Because of his love of climbing, I found myself in an indoor climbing gym, twenty feet off the ground, looking for the next hand and foot hold. My body was challenged by this new activity. I can now say that I have done that. Whether I will ever go outside, I cannot say but I know that I am more of me than I was before.

During our visit, he took us kayaking for the afternoon. I had never kayaked before. Deep water causes anxiety to rise up in me. But with his patient coaxing I found myself beginning to enjoy the quiet of the lake and the vistas of the mountains that rose above us. I was challenged by this new activity. I can now say that I have done that. Whether I will ever kayak for recreation again, I cannot say but I know that I am more of me than I was before.

Both of these activities in and of themselves were not visibly life changing but I know they caused something in me to shift. I had done something new and different. I was changed because of my willingness to try something new by stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Being comfortable in life, you might think, is all well and good. However, if you are too comfortable we tend to stay in the same patterns, never discovering what joys lie just over there. My son stepped outside of his comfort zone. His very being cried out for it and he met up, “coincidentally”, with the C.O.L.T group who were rock climbing in Squamish, while he was up there hiking.

Each day that he climbs a rock face he is discovering something new about himself. Each day that he corrals a group of 12 year olds up a hiking trail he is discovering something new about himself.

The same old, same old is not what your being cries out for. Your very being is about growth through new experiences. It requires a sense of adventure to ignite you into a remembrance of who you are. What is your being crying out for? It may be something subtly new and it may be a grand adventure. Either way you step into a more expanded way of being. Life on planet earth can be quite delicious, if you allow yourself to be open to new possibilities.

What if your life would be enhanced by taking the very risk that you are afraid of? What if the fear was just excitement? What if it was the very thing that you needed?

Each of you is an energetic being that requires energy to move through you. The more that you stretch yourself by stepping into something new, the more energy you call to yourself. Suddenly you will find yourself excited to get up in the morning-your life will vibrate with excitement and joy. You will find more of yourself and in that finding you will expand the universes. You will change, your family will change, your friends will change. Anything you do ripples out and creates possibilities for everyone. Every time you follow the cry of your being, you change the world. Every time you step into the new and expanded version of yourself, doors will open that you hadn’t even considered a possibility. There are infinite possibilities available to you and it simply requires you to be open to them. Do something new and different, the more radical, the greater the possibilities. See the world through new eyes and the world is your oyster.

You can be an energetic being creating or an energetic being who has forgotten who they are. It is your choice dearest ones. What one feels better?

We tell you that as you step into the better feeling, the excited feeling, the I can’t believe I did that! feeling you will find yourself singing a new song. We hear your songs. They are each unique and create a symphony of magnificence-the universe awaits you-the you that cries out to be!
