Dreams Beyond Words

Living Bliss - Head In The Clouds

Growing up I felt destined to become a doctor, a foregone conclusion really.

Where this idea came from I’m not sure.

There certainly weren’t any doctors in the family whose footsteps to follow. Or in any circle of friends.

Nonetheless, the internal attraction to all things medical pulled with the force of a strong magnet.

Until one point in grade 11 when reality smacked in the gut like a 2×4.

There was no way I’d remember all those drugs and dosages in far less than a split second.

Which would, without a doubt, at some point lead to the demise of another person.

Even if by accident.

That single awareness killed the one thing I knew for certain.

A dream died with no replacement.

I took to wandering.

Far too many decisions were made based on “meh, whatever” and “not so bad” rather than “Yes!”

What else is there to do when lost and without direction?

Plenty of others had dreams to tag along on, so why not go there too.

While not exactly happy, at least something existed to grab hold of.

Hold The Dream

Nearly three decades past the death of a dream, a breath of Life was inhaled.

From an innocently asked question one night in an art class (me in an art class in another story), the words ‘healer of spirit’ came to mind.

Puzzle pieces broken apart long ago began falling back into place.

Four years prior, my path had taken a turn onto the road of energy and healing through Reiki.

I still recall the first five minutes of the very first class feeling peacefully excited – I. was. Home.

In a way I’d never felt so deeply belonging anywhere or at ease before.

Healer was the foregone conclusion known back in childhood. Not doctor.

But doctor was the only word available back then.

Letting go of the dream, or so I thought, allowed the real calling to come forward.

The wanderings, detours and wrong turns that made no sense back actually do now.

What you feel and what you Know is often ahead of the language you have to use.

Or is simply too big to put into words.

Hold onto the dream, the image, the feeling, the Knowing.

Even when everything around you says “No!”

Especially when everything inside screams “Yes!”

Lack of words – or evidence – should not defeat what you Know to be true in your bones.

Or heart.

Being a little lost and wandering is a good thing.

You have the opportunity to look past and beyond expecations – no matter how long that takes.

And to see more clearly in ways words cannot express.

When you find yourself stuck or struggling, take some time to step back and observe what you’re trying to fit into.

Then bust down the box to be you again.

Living Bliss is a jump-in-with-both-feet look at where Life bumps into the everyday – whether at work, play or times in between. Bliss knows no separation in the end. From a deeper dive into the ordinary pops forward the extraordinary life we search for – and has been there waiting for us to be.
