To reflect solely upon one’s own self
might be considered vain
to think only
of what you see

But when you look upon yourself
can you see a window
and not a mirror?

In the face of the water
you see your own
and beneath that
still you
Can you real-ize this?

You might reflect and
think of your job
or your appearance
and this is all fine
and well

But what of the reasons
you choose this career
or that particular weight
you long to be?

And when you see those reasons
reflect deeper.
Why this choice over that one?
Who influenced you – and do
you agree?

Reflect so deeply
that you get lost in the dark
depths of the ocean
and your reasons no longer
make sense
and there is no up
no down
no right
no wrong

And then, just be.
Exhale.

From these groundless depths
of not-knowing,
you emerge. You inhale.
You live.

Life goes on.

You turn off the alarm, put on
that shirt
go to work
feed the kids
pick up the crumbs

Others, confined to their boats
no time to reflect
follow the paths of success
no time to reflect
gotta keep rowing to pay the mortgage
no time to reflect

You, floating, swimming, splashing,
the entire ocean your playground.

….Namaste.
