Will you choose puddles of sweat?

Linda Adsetts and The Group are here with their weekly Go for the Joy message. Enjoy!

“Yoga Pose” by Kayla Skogh

Writing for Flexibility week comes at an opportune time for me. I just started a hot yoga practice. I have practiced yoga at home but it is a whole different ballgame when you are practicing moves in 40 Celius and the teacher is pushing you further and longer, into a move.

In each class, the sweat drips off my body and pools around and on my mat and I exit the one hour class, soaking wet. It is very intense and funnily enough very satisfying.

The teacher asks us to set an intent for the class. Mine is to be able to finish it with a small modicum of grace.

My hips are aching from the unaccostomed opening up. The teacher today informed us that we hold years of contraction in our hips, years of holding onto our hurts and stress. My breath begins the release and my body eases into a new way of being.

What if your life could be like that in every moment? What would that look like? Could you allow myself to be flexible in every moment?

I am getting much better at this and it has been a journey that has dipped and dived into contractions along the way. The times that I remember to breathe and release my points of view and the accompanying tensions in my body, eases me into a new way of being and infinite possibilites. It can be a sweet surrender, if I let it be so.

My points of view have stuck me more than once along the way. I decide that one way is the right way and another wrong. But, what if there was no right and wrong but simply a point of view. Right and wrong can be a very cultural, societal or family point of view. Just because we choose otherwise doesn’t make us right. It just makes us who we are. Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes it bites us in the behind!

The Group sees the contrasts that are playing out on planet earth. “Each time you decide that something is wrong or bad you are neglecting to see beyond what is. No one sets out to do a “bad” thing when they get up in the morning. They simply have determined that it is right in that moment for them. You then get to choose what you will do with that.

You can choose to counteract something “bad” with a kindness or you can rage against it. Raging against it only further cements it into your reality. But when you choose to respond with a loving kindness, in whatever way you are capable of in that moment, then you begin to change your reality. You have the power. It is not outside of you. It is entrenched firmly within your being with your ability to choose. Each choice is your moment to create something magnificent, just like we see each of you, magnificent beings of light and love, period.

If you can allow yourself to be flexible enough to come to a place of choice rather than reaction then you will find the power that you have as an individual and collectively. Choice has toppled governments, strengthened societies and families. Choice is your trump card and you don’t have to collect puddles of sweat, unless you want too.”

Though sometimes there is joy in those puddles…..

  1. It’s great to be back here after some travels and break at Thanksgiving! I’ve done yoga for many years now, but I’ve not tried a hot yoga class before. I think mostly because I find that level of heat intimidating and I don’t sweat easily… long story, but it’s a wonky sweat glands thing. I’ve often thought I’d pass out or perish in a hot class… LOL!

    • Hey Tracy! Sometimes I feel like that too but there are great teachers, who remind us to drink water and take a break if we need to. We don’t have to be superwomen….well actually we are superwomen and they are flexible enough to adjust to a situation! LOL! Enjoy your week!
