Welcome to reflection week!
A Bliss Habit’s reader (over on our Facebook page) mused that perhaps Reflection week ought to precede rather than follow Change week. It is a good inquiry. I walk away from mine realizing that reflection is useful at any time.
REFLECTION – a thought occurring in consideration or meditation; careful or long consideration or thought
January heeds her own reflection through the eyes of a child…
Looking glass eyes
by January Handl
Little one,
I see in your eyes
my own heart’s beginning
and the thrill and terror
of the journey’s first steps
The view of the world
is radiant in your
boundless scope-
the edges shimmer
with possibility
The sadness and hope
the wonder and fear
the weariness and joy
are reflected in the mirror
of your soul’s iris
The reminder is clear
of your tender needs
and tendrilled –curiosity;
our un-broken circle
of response-ability
shines
forward and backward
beyond
this moment
Reflection is all arround us and I encourage you to follow its lead.
I do caution however, that it is possible for one to get so entirely wrapped up in reflecting that you may never move forward at all. I think that is why I am more inclined to change quickly and then reflect later! But the perils aside, reflection has many gifts.
This week I encourage you to take a look at reflection. Notice if you are using yours as a tool or for avoidance. Your Bliss Initiative is to take the time to reflect in a way that invigorates your soul. Reflection used wisely is powerful and this week I want you to explore all of the benefits!
“A lake is a landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.” ~Henry David Thoreau

January Handl
January Handl is first and always a mother, has been a preschool teacher and parent educator for 25 years. She is currently lives in Aptos California AND simply in awe of existence.
She calls her photo “hot tub bliss” 🙂
I never thought about reflection being a means of avoidance – I suspect I do that more than I care to admit!
It is something I have to watch for all the time! There comes a point when a step, a decision a SOMETHING is needed even though I’d prefer to continue my contemplation!
I do know that reflection done right feeds my soul so I try to use that as my guide!
