Speaking of Practice – share yours here!

Speaking of Practice 400

Welcome to the Blog Party!  This week we are talking Practice. This means we are looking for everything and anything on the topic! How to practice, why to practice, what to practice… literally Everything and Anything on the topic are all welcome.

I’m going to start things off by directing you to three posts I think speak beautifully on the topic.

  • A Better Way to Practice  – An incredibly useful and thorough post for Lifehacker by Noa Kageyama. “Whether it’s learning how to code, improving your writing skills, or playing a musical instrument, practicing the right way can mean the difference between good and great.
  • Life takes practice. Practice takes community. The community aspect of practice by Marrianne Elliot. “It’s not the kind of practice that makes you perfect. It’s the kind of practice that you do to get to know yourself.
  • I’m Engaged to A Practice Date: Take A Chance And Change Your Life A terrific story about the benefits of practice by Amy Clover of Strong Inside Out. “By trying something new, you expand your options and open up doors to possibilities that you haven’t yet seen.

Check them out and add your own finds in a comment or in the linky below. Remember NEW and OLD posts by you and others are welcome.

Here are the ground rules for this party:

  1. Share NEW and OLD posts on the topic. This is your chance to share your favorite posts. If they fit the topic and you think we could benefit it doesn’t matter when you wrote it. Wisdom is timeless!
  2. Share your’s and other’s posts! Ran across a timely tidbit? Let us hear about it too! When sharing someone else’s posts let us know that in a comment.
  3. Leave a comment after posting letting us know why you think the post is worth our time. We are building a knowledge library and your context makes it all the more valuable!
  4. Have Fun! I hope to make this party a fun and valuable addition to your weekend blog hopping.

Note:  If you don’t have a blog to share, photos, ETSY collections and essays are most welcome. Let me know if you need help linking them up!

I look forward to visiting all the treasures YOU add to the collection!
Outrageous Joy,
Kathy

P.S. Next week we will be “Speaking of Courage” and looking for posts and places that will foster this Bliss Habit!

  1. Hey Kathy! I did not take the time right now to go and read the articles that you suggested but I did book mark them to read later. I do know that they must be goodies if you recommended them 🙂 “Speaking of Practice – share yours here!” Let me see I guess I would simply say “Practice Makes Perfect!” Thanks for the opportunity to share Chery 🙂

  2. Kathy,

I’m a bit like Chery. Her statement about “practice makes perfect” rings true. When you are well versed in a subject your confidence rises, your certainty is present and people tend to know they are dealing with someone practiced in that subject. Practice takes time, discipline and effort. Nothing comes naturally. You’ve never seen a doctor deliver a baby and say, “We’ve got a natural born salesman.” One must be interested enough in their subject matter to hone their skills with study and rehearsal. Repetition and practice makes one look professional.

    Regards,

    RICK

  3. I have to say Kathy that although it won’t be worded ‘practice’ per se. My next post is about exercising from ‘beginner’ . In any type of workout.. We often expect to be able to do WAY more than we can, but is we don’t ‘practice’ we won’t see the results that we would really like or often expect of ourselves!!

  4. Kathy,
thanks for giving more things to do? Ha, “Practice” what a wonderful word, you hear it all the time… just as Chery and Rick said, “Practice make it Perfect”.. you know what? I do not agree 100% on that so called “saying”… ho, yes, I said my self as well, but I said only when I knew that saying anything else it would not be heard haha 🙂
Why I do not agree is simple… would you “practice” to do wrong in life? would you practice to go rub a bank till you become perfect at it? do you practice to cut your fingers till you do not have any left?

So my answer to “practice” is simple… find out what is good, noble and beneficial for for you, for your family, your community, your every one who you have connection with and for the world and THAN, only you then keep practicing till you get it perfect.

I did not read the other 3 blog post… hope this comment is enough to give you an idea what I think about “practice” and for certain, we’ll encounter our selves again.. correct?

Thanks so much for doing what you do to help and support all of us here… you are doing great and love to come back and read more of what will come up soon.

  5. Kathy,

My latest 2 blog posts are about communication in relationships. Without practice, we just blurt out something we feel in the moment and sometimes create havoc and cannot ever undue the damage done in that moment. Practice can eliminate the strain, the worry, the fear and the damaging results.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

  6. Practicing reminds me of learning a musical instrument or playing a sport, or doing something else like practising typing. I’ve seen people use computers or typewriters for 20 years, with one or 2 fingers. If only they’d practiced typing all those years ago, they would be super fast right now.

  7. OK, the party is going to be started and finished without me. I have to practice with self-discipline. I take it easy on my Saturdays and Sundays just read and relax. I choose to join my fellow bretheren on Sunday Mornings. Then arrive to a wonderful feast. Next read, read and relax. That is what I am doing at this time practicing to take time out for me!

When you think about practicing I would say really living a lifestyle that I choose and not doing anything that I feel is wrong to me and ohters. No one is prefect so I practice being a servant to others. This is the only focus for me! Everything else falls in place and I question that not.

Thanks for making us visualize and that is a skill that must be practice each day also. We can keep this going on without limitations. Just allow yourself to tap into that imagination of yours. Hey, when did you sell out your dreams to practice working for someone else’s? Let us practice getting our time, life and rhythm back. How about that?

Thank you Kathy, I feel refreshed each visit. I made one last week and forgot to count that visit. Yet, I love to read and look to grow personally each day for over 30 years. That is another area of practice, personal growth.

  8. Hi,

Fine crafted writing about the practice of Speaking. I do went through the link which you have mentioned and it was awesome. I would find myself that practice makes me perfect, but the sharing the practice of what you learnt from your experience is always the best attraction for all 😉

    Thank You

  9. Oh yes …..Practice is huge…..When I’m out with my students while the practice driving a semi-truck….they get better with guidance and small little corrections that make it easier to get the truck to do the things we need to do….Then we do it again……So far I have learned to say “Do it again”…. in 7 different languages…Lol…..Thanks Kathy ….Great Subject…..Smokey
