Ripples Of Reflection

Living Bliss - Head In The Clouds

Reflecting on reflecting an image flashes to mind –

a king stands atop the outer wall of his castle surveying the bustling courtyard below on one side and green hills rolling into the horizon from the other.

In recent times he’s not had such opportunities.

One battle after another has been waged in the ongoing war, some on the offense and others holding defense.

Surprise dragon attacks have taken their toll too.

Then there are the daily decisions of ruling one’s kingdom – ensuring taxes are collected all the way to settling who owns what goat.

The heat of the moment requires split decisions based on what you know then.

There’s little room for bigger pictures, stepping back, alternate perspectives or just plain allowing what’s happening to reveal itself.

Moments alone like these are rare indeed, but oh so necessary.

One must take stock of all that has happened, and what the future might – and should – hold.

House Of CardsLife has been like the king’s of late.

Year end paperwork piles on top of month end.  Brain cells are fried from reviewing quotes for insurance in micro detail.

Snippets don’t feel long enough to progress business updates very far. Daily routines and weekly errands continue on without a blink.

Then the dragon swooped in carrying not one, but two cats struggling with health.

(Fluffy who has baffled vets and odds for ten months, now has two typical cancer looking spots on his bowel. Our other furboy Amory catapulted unexpectedly into his end of life.)

Pulled in and under could happen all too easily.

Demands of the here and now dip at times into overwhelming.

But the stepping back needed for reflection acts as a life line preventing drowning.

The drive into town, kitty scratches during lap time, a shower, watching sunsets, watching news stories, hearing a song, and even cleaning bathrooms all create space to see “reality” from afar.

A switch flips. I’m not looking for solutions or trying to take control.

The questions aren’t locked into how’s or why’s.

Instead there’s a curious exploring of what, who, and more importantly an allowing from nothing at all to unfold.

I feel different. The energy is different.

I can relax into something much greater than myself. I don’t have to know it all.

Truthfully, I’m not sure I want to.

For the curious that spells the end of the road.

At the heart of reflection is the path of knowing one’s self more deeply.

For as much as there’s not enough time, all gets done that needs to get doning. The rest find other homes. What’s truly important rises to the surface by stepping aside and out of the way.

The failings of a body blurs appearances and allows the soul to shine through more clearly.

Who, not what I am caring for brings forward more compassion, kindness and Love in moments of frustration.

Dealings with insurance over four feet of sewer back up feels like nano dots in comparison to island flattening typhoons and double digit tornadoes in one day.

Somebody worse off is not a great way to feel better.

But does open the door to look further.

Life didn’t conspire against me. Life happens. The less I fight against Life, the more I can get in with Life – and with more grace than ever thought possible in such circumstances.

Above all,

Reflection allows me to see myself in relationship to everything, who I am being in this moment

and decide who I will be in the next.

Reality is truly mine to create, step back into and reflect on further into greater depthness once again.
