How shall I serve?

Welcome to Service Week!

SERVICE – an act of helpful activity; to be helpful or useful

I read a quote somewhere that said something like the happiest people are those who give to others. I believe this to be true. Whenever I am thinking about someone else’s needs or concerns mine are put into perspective. Knowing this to be the case, it is simple to conclude that being of service is something that I want to do.

The question then becomes, how shall I serve? The Limo company in Tamara’s photo has chosen to make what they offer completely fun. A ride to a party in this car sets the mood differently than a standard town car might. What kind of delight could you add to the day to day ways in which you choose to serve?

January considers the question in a larger context:

And now.

When I was a little child
and I wondered about God
I wanted to ask about death,
about where we come from,
where we go,
and how this improbable
world could possibly exist
and we still have to leave it
before we were ready.
When I was a teen,
And I pondered
The one question
I would ask God
given the chance
it was:
Why suffering?

I had awokened to
the helpless magnitude
of grief
of the weeping world,
how could so many
seemingly bad things
happen on this planet
as regular as breathing.

As my experience broadened
and my compassion
grew,
as I was humbled in how
little I understood,
how limited my
view was of the big picture,
I realized that if given
the outrageous opportunity
to pose the single query
to a divine supreme being
the only question that
now makes sense to me is
How shall I serve?

Again, How shall I serve? remains the question.

This week’s Bliss Initiative is to choose how we will serve. We will jump in and do what is needed. We will make a difference for ourselves and others.

So tell me, how will you be doing it?
