“Natasha’s Practice” by Tamara Magnitsky

Welcome to Practice week!

In this photo Natasha was copying what she had seen others do. For a child this is the purest form of practice. Everything she sees, everything she does is seen or imagined first. Try this. Try that. Feeling what feels right. This is how every one does it whether we’ve remembered or not.

January considers it from an adult perspective:

Life’s practice
by January Handl

For me,
life takes practice-
being a human being
is challenging:
the complexity
the limits
the limitlessness.

Different times
on the timeline of my life
have meant different practices,
from mastery of the body
(waiting for that to complete)
to relationship
to partnership
to
patience with my children,
patience with bureaucracy,
patience with others,
patience with time.

Soon my practice
went from inner-outer:
body-world,
To outer-outer:
self-others-culture
To outer-inner:
Others-self-balance

And now
all wants to follow
the breath
the pulse
the tide of time’s demand,
to inner-inner:
body-self, other-self, beyond self
This .
“beyond self”
is worth the attention,
worth the intention,
worth the willingness,
to try again,
and again,
and again,
and
again,
until,
at least most of the time
the
try
slips away
to
is.

Yes!  Practice. Try things out. Notice what works what doesn’t and then, when ready, slip away to what is.

Your entire life has been practice for where you are right now. If you’d like something different you can always add a new practice, a new place to put your intention, find something to try.

This week our Bliss Initiative is honor the practice our life has been. We celebrate what is and we consider what else may be worth trying.

What will you be practicing?
