Welcome to Mindfulness Week! Yes, we are getting started a little late. I’m fresh off the heels of a family adventure in Napa county California. African safari animals, petrified forests, castles and wine… a fabulous three day excursion!
Of course it is, as usual so fitting that mindfulness should back right up next to this adventure. Me, easily distracted from being present because “My mindfulness post will be late” and needing to release my worries (because I know YOU would be happiest if I did so!) I relaxed into the fun. Like Tamara’s butterflies I flitted, moment to moment in the now.
January too finds the way:
And Now…
by January Handl
Using the lens of my senses
I awaken to this moment,
perceiving in exquisite detail
the internal and external landscape
that is in a constant
state of change
and exchange
My central processing center,
my brilliant and voracious mind,
keeps me both constantly distracted
by ghosts of past moments, and frettings of the future
AND
stunningly focused on the gift
of will,
attention,
intention
determined to begin again
and again
and again
body sensation,
wrapping around the core
breath that waits
as an anchor
as a ballast
as an acknowledgement
of the precarious and precious
gift
of the choice of my focus
on the daily delights and disasters
of being alive
of being aware
of being alive
of being
And now…
Yesterday I chose to focus on family fun even though many other thoughts tried to pull me. Today I’m called to be fully here. Smack in the middle of awareness, I breathe in to awaken, and choose to be here now.
MINDFULNESS –an attentive awareness of the reality of things, especially of the present moment; thoughtful, aware
How will you awaken this moment?
